State Investigates Allentown Abortion Center Allegedly Dodging Facility Inspection

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Documents from an abortion center in Allentown have prompted state officials to investigate whether the center may be dodging unannounced state inspections.

A Planned Parenthood in Allentown allegedly rescheduled abortion procedures after finding out when the Pennsylvania Department of Health planned to inspect the facility, according to documents released to blogger Jill Stanek. The allegations that Planned Parenthood has inside information about inspections prompted speedy action by the Governor.

“Pro-life Governor Tom Corbett’s office is now looking into allegations that abortion giant Planned Parenthood may be getting preferential treatment when it comes to abortion center inspections,” said Maria Gallagher, legislative director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, an affiliate of National Right to Life. “We commend the Governor for taking swift action to ensure the integrity of the inspection process. The health and safety of women across the Commonwealth are at stake.”

Stanek said the documents came from an informant from the Planned Parenthood Keystone affiliate, which oversees facilities in central and eastern Pennsylvania. One document shows a Planned Parenthood “Changes to Medical Center and Admin Building Schedules.” The schedule was updated on March 11 showing that abortions in Allentown would be moved from Friday, March 21, to Thursday, March 20, due to the Department of Health inspection.

In 2011, Pennsylvania enacted a new law requiring regular and unannounced inspections of abortion centers in an effort to protect the health and safety of women and babies in the Commonwealth.

“Pennsylvania has become a national leader in abortion center regulation and it is critically important that the inspection process not be compromised. We remember all too well the horrors that took place in West Philadelphia under the direction of abortionist and now convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell. We owe it to Gosnell’s victims to learn from the painful lessons of the past,” Gallagher added.

Who Really Has Women’s Best Interests at Heart?

Planned Parenthood with its bright pink logo and its catchy slogans claims to have women’s best interests at heart. But it doesn’t take much to see past the façade.

The abortion provider fights vehemently for “access to women’s reproductive health care” (translation: abortion). They oppose any and all abortion regulation laws – including those PlannedParenthood1meant to protect women’s health – all in the name of access.

But when it comes to real health care access issues, Planned Parenthood isn’t just silent. They’re actually promoting a law that cuts off access to basic health care for women and their families.

I’m talking about Obamcare.

Planned Parenthood is one of the biggest proponents of the federal health care law. The problem is that as more people sign up for new insurance plans, they are finding that their new plans exclude specialist doctors and highly-reputable health care centers, according to a report by the National Right to Life Committee.

National news outlets also are picking up on the restricting effects of the law. In an Oct. 21, 2013, piece in USA Today, Annika McGinnis wrote:

“In New Hampshire, the exchange has just Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, which greatly reduces the number of hospital options, says State Sen. Andy Sanborn. Since more than 90% of doctors are affiliated with specific hospitals, the new plans will also exclude many doctors, he added. Plans don’t include the capital’s Concord Hospital, and the next-closest hospital uses Concord doctors, Sanborn said. So, he said, people will have to drive to a third hospital an hour away. They’ll even have to call an ambulance from a far-away hospital to pick them up, he said.”

And this is just one of many examples.

Planned Parenthood conveniently ignores the fact that Obamacare is forcing families to travel further to find basic health care. As long as women can have easy access to abortions, nothing else matters to them.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to conclude that Planned Parenthood cares only about abortion. No matter what.

Pennsylvania Remains a Leader in the Fight for Life

By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director
gallagher@paprolife.org

A national group recently claimed that Pennsylvania is losing ground, as far as the fight for life is concerned.

Thankfully for Pennsylvanians, this is actually NOT the case.

Capitol-front-viewLargePennsylvania has made incredible progress in defending innocent human life in the past three years. We’ve seen at least six abortion facilities shut their doors. Abortion totals have nosedived nearly 5 percent. We’ve also passed landmark legislation such as our abortion center regulation law, which ensures that abortion facilities follow the same safety standards as outpatient surgery centers. And we enacted a law guaranteeing that no taxpayer funding of abortion will occur in the Keystone State under the health insurance exchange created by the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare.

The prosecution of abortionist Kermit Gosnell also awakened a number of Americans to the horrors that can occur inside a legal abortion facility. Gosnell and his associates–who killed infants and whose negligence resulted in the death of a female patient–have been brought to justice.

The political arm of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion operation, is targeting Pennsylvania because of the stunning victories we have achieved on the pro-life front.

It can easily be argued that, in the past few years, Pennsylvania has made more pro-life progress than in the past twenty years. That is due to pro-lifers across our state, who are calling and emailing our public officials as never before, lobbying on behalf of life. And we must also thank our state legislators and our Governor for their steadfast determination to protect babies and their mothers from harm.

Pennsylvanians have every reason to be proud of our pro-life achievements. They are helping to not only save lives, but improve the quality of life for our citizens.

Planned Parenthood’s Priorities and a Sad Irony

It’s ironic how timely things work out sometimes. Take yesterday for example.

Here in Pennsylvania, a group of pro-abortion advocates introduced a series of bills about women’s issues. Fortunately, most of them dealt with other women’s issues and left the abortion alone. A new bill proposing a state-wide buffer zone was the exception.abortion-is-not-healthcare

Some of the bills were written to protect women from discrimination and violence, while another bill would require employers to provide a private space for mothers who breast feed.

I found it ironic that Planned Parenthood was among the groups touting this legislative package, because that very same day I also was looking over the organization’s annual report, which had just been released. Read more here.

The report revealed that their priorities were much different from what the Pennsylvania Planned Parenthood advocates were touting to the press.

According to the Planned Parenthood 2012-2013 report:

– Cancer screening services dropped 14%
– Prenatal services declined by 32%
– Breast exams declined by 34% since 2009
– For every one adoption referral, Planned Parenthood performed 149 abortions
– Abortions made up about 94% of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy services

While it is true that Planned Parenthood’s abortion numbers also dropped by 2%, the data points to abortion as the focus of their industry. (Its revenues were at an all-time high, fueled by 327,166 abortions.)

It’s sadly ironic that Planned Parenthood is lobbying for lactating mothers even as the majority of its clinic income comes from depriving women of their babies through abortion.

Pennsylvania Law Stops Abortion Health Insurance Scheme

I am so thankful that we passed House Bill 818 here in Pennsylvania.

The bill, which is now Act 13, prevents our tax dollars from being used for abortion by opting out of abortion coverage in the state health insurance exchange created in Capitol-front-viewLargeObamacare.

Act 13 actually made a bigger impact than most people probably realized at first. In states that didn’t pass a law like ours, their residents may be misled into supporting even more abortions.

Recent news reports say the government is placing more power and money into the hands of Planned Parenthood. Several of the abortion giant’s state affiliates (none here in Pennsylvania, thankfully) received navigator grants to help uninsured people sign up for health insurance.

It’s not hard to guess how Planned Parenthood will “guide” Americans when it comes to choosing a health care plan. Planned Parenthood makes their money doing abortions, and the more people with abortion coverage in their health insurance, the more women will have abortions. The more abortions, the more money for Planned Parenthood. What a great scheme, right?

But thanks to Act 13, that’s not going to happen here in Pennsylvania. We said no to abortion coverage in our state insurance exchange plans. We said no to biased counseling and no to our tax dollars being spent on abortion.

It’s clear even more now than ever before why we needed to pass Act 13. I’m so thankful for Pennsylvania saying a big YES to life!

Gosnell Case Draws Attention to Abortion Horrors in Delaware

Kermit Gosnell was convicted of murdering three newborn infants, but he probably killed hundreds more at his Philadelphia abortion center.

He botched abortions and injured women. He allowed unlicensed staff to perform gosnell40medical procedures, waving off the necessary sanitary and safety procedures. He treated his poor and minority patients differently.

News reports this week delve into the question of why Gosnell was not prosecuted in Delaware, where he also was doing abortions.

Some witnesses said Gosnell’s practices were no different in Delaware than they were in Philadelphia.

The problem, according to news reports, is that investigators did not have enough evidence to prosecute Gosnell in Delaware.

But now authorities have a new abortion investigation on their hands.

Last week, two nurses testified in the Delaware Senate that they quit Planned Parenthood Delaware after witnessing “ridiculously unsafe” conditions.

The similarities to Gosnell’s center are chilling: profit-driven “meat-market style assembly line abortions,” botched abortions that sent women to the hospital, unlicensed staff, and unsanitary conditions.

Hopefully, these reports will serve as a wake-up call to Delaware, just as Gosnell did in Pennsylvania. Abortion centers cannot be left unchecked by the state. When they do, women get hurt and babies die. It’s time to hold abortion centers accountable.

Kindergarten Teacher Dies after Late-Term Abortion; Abortionist Didn’t Answer Emergency Calls

A kindergarten teacher has died at the hands of a late-term abortionist. Not long ago, Jennifer Morbelli and her husband were making plans to Jennifer Morbelliwelcome their baby girl into the world. They had picked out baby things for her in a registry, and they even had chosen a name – Madison.

But when the couple found out that their baby girl had abnormalities, they decided to abort her. Read more here.

Infamous late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart performed Jennifer’s abortion earlier this month at a center in Maryland. After the surgery, Jennifer went home and began experiencing intense pain. According to reports, the family tried to call Carhart, but he did not answer. They took her to the emergency room, and she died a few hours later.

Now, a source reveals that Carhart’s abortion center instructs its patients NOT to go to the emergency room. The instructions say that if the woman is having problems, she should call and meet someone at the center.

This case mirrors the tragic death of young Chicago mother Tonya Reeves last summer. In her case, she went to Planned Parenthood for an abortion and started having problems while she was there. The staff waited six hours before taking her to the emergency room. And then they failed to inform the hospital staff about her condition.

It’s also reminiscent of the horror stories that were revealed in Philadelphia two years ago. Abortionist Kermit Gosnell butchered women and newborn infants in his gristly practice. He now awaits trial for the deaths of seven newborns and a woman.

When will these sickening killings end? When will our society wake up and realize how devastating abortion is to preborn babies and their mothers?

The Pro-life Fight for Women

By Maria Gallagher

The line “War on Women” did not die on Election Night 2012. The pro-abortion lobby carefully coined this phrase in an attempt to neutralize advances made by those who believe that law and public policy should protect an innocent person’s right to life. It’s catchy, alliterative, and denotes violence and death, and so it works well in a soundbite world.

Every time the catch-phrase is uttered—on cable news, radio talk shows, and in the Twitterverse, it should be countered—in an equally soundbite-savvy way. For what the pro-life movement has been engaging in for the past 40 years is a Fight for Women. And many women are leading the charge:

Abby Johnson. This courageous mom once worked for Planned Parenthood, but, Former Planned Parenthood Director Abby Johnsonwhen viewing an ultrasound-guided abortion—and seeing the goodness and kindness of the 40 Days for Life members standing vigil outside the abortion center door—walked bravely to “the other side.” She now assists those who work within the abortion industry to find a safe way out. You can learn more about her And Then There Were None ministry at http://www.attwn.org/ . (And be sure to read her fascinating account of her transition from abortion proponent to pro-life advocate in her ground-breaking book, “Unplanned.” Abby is a passionate leader in the Fight for Women.

Lila Rose. This remarkable twenty-something is lila3tthe founder of Live Action, which uses the tried-and-true tools of investigative journalism to expose the illegal activity and corruption present in the abortion industry. Lila has been especially effective at lifting the veil behind the cover-up of the sexual abuse of minor girls. You can learn more about her at http://www.liveaction.org/lilarose/ . Lila is a fearless truth-seeker in the Fight for Women.

Gianna Jessen and Melissa Ohden. These two articulate young women have put a face on “choice.” Both are survivors of attempts to take their lives through abortion. They have raised their voices for those unborn girls who have none, and their testimony is powerful. Discover their stories at http://www.giannajessen.com/main/octoberbaby.html and http://www.melissaohden.com/ . Gianna and Melissa represent the heart and soul of the Fight for Women.

Kristan Hawkins. She is the Executive Director of Students Kristan_Hawkinsfor Life. She has invigorated pro-life activism on college campuses around the nation, and has helped to show the world that youth have a particular stake in the Fight for Women. The Students for Life success story can be found at www.studentsforlife.org . Kristan is among the leading strategists in the Fight for Women.

This is far from a complete list—but it does spotlight the role that young, vibrant leaders are playing in the Fight for Women. Whenever you hear abortion advocates talking about the War on Women, point to the awe-inspiring Millennials and Gen-Xers at the forefront of the pro-life movement and respond, “No, you must mean the Fight for Women—and we are winning!”

Western Pa. Abortion Center Temporarily Stops Abortions

Fewer abortions are happening in Pennsylvania today.

An abortion center run by Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania has stopped offering surgical abortions while it renovates its facility to comply with a new law. Sadly, the facility plans to begin doing abortions again when the renovations are finished. Read the news story here.

For this short time of renovations, we hope and pray that the women who were thinking about getting an abortion there this month will consider other options – keeping her baby or giving the baby up for adoption.

Pregnant women in Pennsylvania have access to support thanks to programs like Real Alternatives and other pregnancy resource centers. These community centers offer resources to women while they are pregnant and after they give birth. Learn more about pregnancy centers and resources available in your area here.

November also is National Adoption Month. Learn more about adoption in Pennsylvania here.

New Video Exposes Planned Parenthood Lying about Botched Abortions

Live Action has revealed a new investigative video of abortion centers that have botched women’s abortions within the past two years. Watch it here watch?v=pSoPys6KybI&feature=player_embedded

The pro-life group’s investigators called Planned Parenthood abortion centers to ask about the health risks of abortion and the women who had been hurt there by botched abortions.

When a caller asks Planned Parenthood’s Birmingham, Alabama, abortion clinic if when women get abortions at the clinic, “They’re not in danger, they don’t get, like, injured?” Planned Parenthood responds, “No ma’am, we don’t have any type of procedure where a woman would receive an injury.”

While the Birmingham Planned Parenthood clinic botched a woman’s abortion in 2010 while it was on probation from the Alabama Department of Health.

Investigators also called the Chicago abortion center where a young mother died earlier this year of complications from an abortion. There, too, the center workers lied about the health risks of abortion and said no women had been hurt there.

The truth is that abortion does hurt women.
