Our Own Holocaust

One week ago, Wednesday, January 27th , was International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This date was chosen because it is the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp in Poland in 1945 where over a million people died.

It IS however, more than a little providential that this day of remembrance falls so closely on the heels of the anniversary of the beginning of our own holocaust here in the United States…the legalization of abortion in Roe vs. Wade. While we mourn the lives of the million people who were killed in the death camps, it’s equally important to remember the almost 58 million who have died here in the United States since 1973.

What makes the proximity of the dates even more providential is how the same illogic that was used to justify the murder of Jews in the 1940s is being used today by pro-abortion advocates to promote the genocide of the minority community. Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, and many other pro-abortionists supported the idea of eugenics—the purification of the human gene pool, and argue even to this day that abortion is one way to do that. Perhaps that’s why almost 80% of Planned Parenthood facilities are so close to (if not in) minority communities. For more information about the black genocide, visit www.blackgenocide.org.

One week from today we head into another period of remembrance of our own holocaust here in the United State, 40 Days for Life. I encourage each of you to find a location near you at which you can participate here. Thank you for all you do to support choosing life!

Richards Wrong Again

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards is featured in an article for the February edition of Esquire Magazine. Besides feeling the need to spend some time in a decontamination unit after reading the article, there are a few particular points of sadness.

In the article, Richards several times references highlights of her childhood and even states at one point “It was a pretty wonderful childhood”. While it’s good to know she had such a great childhood, as pro-life advocates, it’s sad to think of the MILLIONS of pre-born babies who won’t get to enjoy such wonderful childhood experiences.

Richards also reminisces about organizing migrant workers in Los Angeles and says the women she organized are the same ones who count on Planned Parenthood. What she doesn’t address is the history of eugenics her organization (particularly its founder Margaret Sanger) has and their role in wiping out generations of minority pre-born babies.

Finally, Richards talks about how pro-life efforts by Congress are simply designed to put women in their place. She is wrong again…the pro-life movement is about empowering women so they don’t think of their pre-born child as a burden and ensuring they are empowered to choose life.

Overall, this interview can engender feelings of disgust, anger, or sadness. All one can really do is pray for Miss Richards that she will see the errors of her way and become an advocate for choosing life.

MEET THE NEW EDUCATION DIRECTOR, MATTHEW WAGNER

Hello!  I thought I would take a minute and introduce myself as the new Education Director (hence chief blogger) for the PA Pro Life Federation.  Since you’ll be reading a lot from me, I thought it would be a good idea to know a little about me, my background, and why I’m pro-life.

First, a little about me…

I have a lot of titles, although the most important are “Father” to my two boys Russ (9) and Nathaniel (4) and “Husband” to my beautiful wife of 13 years Lisa.  We live in Mechanicsburg with our dog Odie (the REAL master of the house).  I am active in my church, Trinity United Methodist in New Kingstown), my son’s cub scout pack (Pack 180), a local nonprofit organization called New Digs Ministry that is committed to helping people who are rebuilding their lives by providing furnishings and household goods, absolutely free of charge.  I also do what I can to support pro-life candidates of all parties.

How I got here…

I grew up in a very conservative Christian household as the oldest of 4 (two brothers and a sister).  We were all homeschooled most of our early education, and I finished up at Harrisburg Christian School in Linglestown.  Growing up with that background, there was never any question in my mind of the definition of “right” and “wrong” or of when life began, but my first real exposure to the abortion issue was in high school when for our Social Studies class we had to write a research paper on the Roe VS. Wade decision from a judicial, moral, and ethical perspective.  I went on from there to college, first at Harrisburg Area Community College, and then at Bloomsburg University.  I have since spent my life in various professional roles, most recently running my own business doing communication and political consulting for various nonprofits and public figures.

Why I’m pro-life…

Most of it has to do with my religious background and beliefs.  I believe life begins at conception, and it deserves to be protected the whole way to natural death.  I also believe we have a moral and ethical, if not biblical, obligation to stand up and defend those who can’t defend themselves.  Now, as a father, I understand even better the miracle of life, and I feel a deep personal obligation to making this a better world for my boys…and to me that starts with making sure we choose life!

That’s enough about me for now.  I look forward to meeting each of you, and working with you in the weeks, months, and years ahead.  If there’s anything you need, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us either by email at lifelines@paprolife.com, or by calling us at 717-541-0034.  I hope you enjoy my future blog posts (which I guarantee won’t be this long) and I look forward to your feedback!

Reflecting on Abortion in Philly and Black History Month

By Carla Ezell
Southeast Regional Coordinator, ezell@paprolife.org

Black History Month is a celebration filled with music, dance, and bright colors. The nostalgia of remembering our mothers, fathers, aunts, and uncles who lived colorful lives comes to remembrance. We who are older tell our children and grandchildren about the great actors, mother_and_childwriters, doctors, lawyers, and inventors from the ‘30s and ‘40s who succeeded because they didn’t give up in the face of racism and negativity.

Four hundred years ago, blacks were treated as slaves with no human rights; but today through our hard work and determination, we are able to own a business of any kind and be a part of the political system that makes the laws of the land.

It has been a long journey, full of every imaginable emotion a man or woman can go through. Even though we have had so many accomplishments, we as so many other cultures have been fooled into thinking we can tell our young people it’s OK to kill a child in the womb.

As a Black culture, abortion in the past was not an option. We accepted the gift of a new child knowing the child may have been conceived illegitimately, even by incest or rape. It wasn’t the child’s fault. The child was welcomed as a blessing to the family.

Now we’re listening to organizations like Planned Parenthood and NARAL who promote abortion as a means to a better life. We’re fooled by Planned Parenthood celebrating Black History Month. The abortion giant never tells us that their founder, Margaret Sanger, was a eugenicist who believed people of color were inferior. Adolf Hitler admired her and structured the annihilation of the Jews according to Sanger’s teachings.

We are a culture that can keep secrets, but this is not the time for secrets. Our babies are being aborted at a higher rate than any other race in America. In my city of Philadelphia in 2013, the abortion count was over 15,000. No wonder the schools are closing. In the United States, more than 15 million Afro American children and 57 million children of all races are dead, and millions of women and men are walking around wounded.

Now, we’re going to be facing a bill in Pennsylvania that would legalize doctor-prescribed suicide. Seniors, the disabled, mentally and physically impaired will be targeted. Of course, the issue will be presented as humane; but in reality it’s cost efficient.

Unfortunately, we don’t know our power. We as Afro Americans have to take the time to call our leaders and tell them, we don’t want abortion or doctor-prescribed suicide.

We keep forgetting: Our leaders work for us.

Jury’s Verdict in Philadelphia Abortionist Kermit Gosnell’s Trial

The following statement can be attributed to Michael Ciccocioppo, executive director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, following today’s verdict in the murder trial of  abortionist Kermit Gosnell:

Gosnell“The Kermit Gosnell case is a tragedy on so many levels, not just for our Commonwealth but for our nation. Officials believe Gosnell actually killed hundreds of newborn babies and injured their mothers, but he destroyed most of the evidence.  These were heinous crimes and Gosnell had to be held accountable,” Ciccocioppo said.

“For the sake of all Gosnell’s victims, let us never forget the rampant disregard for life that was allowed to continue for decades in our state. We hope that in the future politics will not stand in the way of protecting the health and safety of women and newborns.

“In the wake of the Gosnell tragedy, Governor Tom Corbett and the state legislature took action to ensure that abortion facilities would be regularly inspected and would be subject to the same standards as outpatient surgery centers.

“This is really the most that can be done under the tragic U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, which brought us abortion on demand and the unspeakable tragedy of Gosnell.  It’s time to take a second look at Roe—in memory of Gosnell’s victims,” Ciccocioppo added.

Pa. Girl with Down Syndrome Inspires Families to Choose Life

I stuck a new photo on my wall today at work, near the family photos, pregnancy hotlines and images of babies in the womb. This picture is of a pretty young girl sitting beside a beaming grandfatherly man.

Just looking at the photo makes me beam inside, too. I have never met the little girl, but she inspires me.

Chloe Kondrich is featured on the cover of the book "Brilliant Souls."

Chloe Kondrich is featured on the cover of the book “Brilliant Souls.”

This girl is Chloe Kondrich, and she has Down syndrome.Today, I talked with Chole’s father on our half-hour radio program/podcast, LifeLines. Kurt Kondrich was a police officer in Pittsburgh before his daughter was born. When he discovered how many children like his daughter are killed in the womb (up to 90 percent of all prenatally diagnosed Down syndrome babies), Kurt changed career paths. He went back to school, and became a Pennsylvania advocate for early intervention and the right to life.

During our show, Kurt tells some amazing stories about how Chloe’s life has made an impact on other people. In the past year, the Kondrich Family has connected with three different couples whose babies were prenatally diagnosed with Down syndrome. All three were considering abortion.

Then they met Chloe. Her exceptional life touched something deep inside them. Through Chloe’s witness, they realized the value of the baby they were carrying. Because of Chloe, all three couples chose life for their babies.

Please take the time to listen to our podcast online and hear about how the Kondrich Family is inspiring and educating people all across Pennsylvania. And visit the Kondrich Family’s websites, Chloe’s Message and SADSIN.

40 Days for Life Campaign Starts on Wednesday

Wednesday, February 13, marks the beginning of Lent for Christians. This forty-day period leading up to Easter is set aside for reflection, prayer, and fasting.

Perhaps not coincidentally, the powerful 40 Days for Life campaign 40 days for lifebegins on the same day. The pro-life campaign focuses on prayer and fasting, peaceful vigils, and community outreach to draw attention to the evil of abortion.

These 40-day campaigns have proved to be a powerful witness to the value of life. One community’s vigils inspired Abby Johnson to quit her job at Planned Parenthood. Since then she has become a pro-life household name as she defends the lives of preborn babies, supports their mothers, and offers help to abortion workers who want to quit their jobs.

Because of the campaign, there have been thousands of reports from mothers who chose life for their babies.

Election Brings Pro-Life Victories Across Pennsylvania

The untold story of the November 6 election is how well pro-life candidates performed throughout Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania’s pro-life Congressional candidates swept to victory.   All the incumbent Congressmen endorsed by the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation Political Action Committee won their races.  In addition, pro-life Keith Rothfus scored an upset win against incumbent Mark Critz (D-12), who had a mixed voting record on pro-life issues.

Likewise, a pro-life majority remains in the state legislature.  It should be noted that the pro-life caucuses in the House and the Senate include both Republicans and Democrats.  Pennsylvania has a long-standing tradition of electing pro-life Democrats to office, despite the fact that the national party platform is pro-abortion.

“We are honored by the fact that so many of Pennsylvania’s legislators are committed to helping pregnant women and their children.  Pennsylvanians can be proud of the fact that they have such dedicated public servants who believe in empowering women and protecting life,” said Maria Gallagher, Legislative/PAC Director for the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation.

“We are particularly fortunate to have so many gifted pro-life women who have been elected to the state legislature.  Their leadership is inspiring to the many women who believe that human life should be protected—from the dawn to the twilight of life,” Gallagher added.

Seven Ideas for Protecting the Right to Life in October

October is a great month to get involved in the pro-life movement. The month holds multiple chances to participate in pro-life prayer, outreach, and public witnessing against the tragedy of abortion.

This fall, why not make it a goal to do one pro-life activity? Take just a few hours out of one day to participate in an event. You could save a life!

Here are seven ideas for you:

1. Participate in a 40 Days for Life Campaign. Beginning  Wednesday and continuing 40 days through October, the groups will hold constant  vigils outside abortion centers as they pray and fast. Because of these peaceful gatherings, about 6,000 babies have been saved from abortion, 24 abortion centers have closed, and 69 abortion workers have quit their jobs. Find a campaign in your area here.

2. Join a Life Chain on Sunday, October 7. The Life Chain is a public display of prayerful opposition to abortion. Pro-lifers usually gather at a prominent point in town to listen to pro-life speakers and pray. To see if there will be a Life Chain in your area, email us at lifelines@paprolife.org .

3. Spend one evening in October reading more about the devastating effects of abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia. Our website has a wealth of information about abortion, unplanned pregnancies and alternatives to abortion, stem cell research, legislation, euthanasia, and more.

4. Write a letter to the editor about a pro-life issue. Find tips for writing here.

5. Join a chapter of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation. Our 40 chapters serve as important links in their community to right to life information and advocacy. They organize events such as 40 Days for Life and Life Chains, host special speakers and classes, spread information through billboards and advertisements, and set up informational booths at community events.  Some churches, high schools, and colleges also have pro-life groups. Find a chapter here.

6. Pray for the women who are facing unintended pregnancies, and pray for an end to abortion.

7. Host a bake sale or a baby shower to raise money for your local pregnancy help center. Or volunteer to help at the center for a day. Find a list of pregnancy help centers here.

October is the perfect time to make your voice heard for the preborn!
