LeRoy Carhart, a notorious late-term abortionist, is getting away with gross negligence in the death of a 29-year-old woman.
The woman, Jennifer Morbelli, has a heartbreaking story. She and her husband were excited young parents, expecting their first child – a daughter. Then, they got the news that their preborn baby had a serious health problem. So, the Morbellis went to Carhart’s Maryland abortion center.
A few days later, both the mother and baby were dead.
The Maryland Board of Physicians just announced this week that Carhart won’t face any punishment for Morbelli’s tragic death. The state officials said they didn’t find any “deficiencies” in her care at Carhart’s center.
That’s hard to believe based on the evidence. According to news reports and pro-life investigations, Carhart’s abortion center instructed its patients to call him, not the emergency room, if they were having any trouble.
So, that’s what the Morbellis did. They tried calling and calling Carhart, but no one answered. Morbelli later was taken to the hospital where she died.
Carhart should be held accountable for his crimes. Instead, — and I find this so sickening – he is being celebrated in a new documentary about late-term abortionists. The film, which I have not seen, appears to depict Carhart as brave and noble and compassionate to women because he will kill their late-term preborn babies when most doctors won’t.
It sounds a lot like how Kermit Gosnell described himself in a recent, exclusive interview from jail. He ,too, was responsible for the deaths of several women. Fortunately, justice caught up with Gosnell, and he will spend the rest of his life in jail.
I pray that someday our society will treat every human life with the respect and dignity that they deserve.
