Pa. Alternatives to Abortion Program Offers Women Another Choice

Pa. Candidate for Governor Is Still Not Answering Gosnell Question

Pennsylvania candidate for governor Allyson Schwartz still isn’t commenting about the Kermit Gosnell abortion horrors, and people are starting to wonder.

Schwartz, a Democratic candidate in the primary, ran an abortion center in Philadelphia for 13 years, according to LifeNews.com. The abortion center was just a few miles from Gosnell’s “house of horrors.”Capitol-front-viewLarge

A letter to the editor recently appeared on the Harrisburg Patriot-News website, PennLive.com, calling for transparency from Schwartz by asking her to answer if her center referred patients to Gosnell’s center.

Kermit Gosnell was convicted of first-degree murder in the deaths of three infants who were born alive after failed abortions. He also was held partly responsible for the death of a female patient who died after receiving an overdose of anesthesia from Gosnell’s unlicensed staff.

It was pro-abortion politics in the first place that allowed Gosnell’s abusive practices of butchering women and killing babies to continue unchecked for so many years.

For the sake of women and preborn babies, we cannot accept “no comment” as an answer when it comes to Gosnell.

Legislation Allows the Commonwealth to Opt-Out
of Elective Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance Exchange

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Governor Tom Corbett signed into law Monday a measure to protect Pennsylvania tax dollars from being spent on abortion.

House Bill 818, which passed the state House in April and Senate on June 5, ensuresChoose Life! that Pennsylvania opts out of elective abortion coverage in the state health insurance exchange created through the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare.

“House Bill 818 is a true taxpayer protection bill,” said Maria Gallagher, legislative director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation. “We thank Governor Corbett and the legislators for protecting taxpayers’ interests and preserving Pennsylvania’s longstanding and time-tested policy that prevents taxpayer funding of abortion.”

The Affordable Care Act includes a provision allowing states to opt-out of abortion coverage in the health insurance exchanges. Pennsylvania joins more than 30 other states that have, or are in the process of, enacting opt-out legislation.

“National polls show the majority of women and men – on both sides of the abortion issue — agree that our tax dollars should not be spent on abortion,” Gallagher said. “Without this legislation, Pennsylvania taxpayers would be forced to support the abortion industry.”

House Bill 818 includes exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother, which are the same exceptions that apply to Medicaid funding of abortion in Pennsylvania. Therefore, the Pennsylvania bill is in line with state law and the U.S. Constitution.

The bill was sponsored by state Rep. Donna Oberlander, R-Clarion.

Abortionists Say Baby, Life Are Relative Terms in New Video

When is a baby a baby? According to the abortion industry, it depends on the mother.

LeRoy Carhart, a Maryland late-term abortionist, says, “ … life begins when the mother thinks it begins, not when anybody else thinks it begins. For some women, it’s before they conceive; for some women, it’s never. Even after they deliver, it’s still a problem, not a baby.”

And an abortion counselor in New Mexico says, “Well what – how – what do you consider a baby? It’s definitely a fetus. … Um, it depends what the term ‘baby’ means to you, and how you perceive it.”

The truth is not relative. It is not something we perceive. And the truth is on our side.

Whether society calls it a fetus or a zygote or a baby, it’s still a human being whose life begins at the moment of conception. Those are unarguable scientific facts.

And women deserve the truth.

Victory! Pa. Senate OKs Bill to Prevent Tax Funding of Abortion

Bill Protecting Pa. Tax Dollars Heads to Governor

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Pennsylvania taxpayers gained a victory Wednesday when the state Senate passed a bill to prevent tax dollars from being spent on abortions.

House Bill 818, which passed the state House in April, ensures that Pennsylvania opts out of elective abortion coverage in the state health insurance exchange created through the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. The bill passed the Senate with bipartisan support, 31 votes in favor to 19 against.

“House Bill 818 is a true taxpayer protection bill,” said Maria Gallagher, legislative director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation. “We applaud the Senate for preserving Pennsylvania’s longstanding and time-tested policy that prevents taxpayer funding of abortion.”

The Affordable Care Act includes a provision allowing states to opt-out of abortion coverage in the health insurance exchanges. Pennsylvania is one of more than 30 states that have, or are in the process of, enacting opt-out legislation.

“National polls show that more than 70 percent of Americans oppose tax dollars being spent on abortion,” Gallagher said. “We are grateful to both the Senate and the House for listening to women and men throughout the Commonwealth who do not want their hard-earned tax dollars to be used for abortions.”

Gosnell Case Draws Attention to Abortion Horrors in Delaware

Kermit Gosnell was convicted of murdering three newborn infants, but he probably killed hundreds more at his Philadelphia abortion center.

He botched abortions and injured women. He allowed unlicensed staff to perform gosnell40medical procedures, waving off the necessary sanitary and safety procedures. He treated his poor and minority patients differently.

News reports this week delve into the question of why Gosnell was not prosecuted in Delaware, where he also was doing abortions.

Some witnesses said Gosnell’s practices were no different in Delaware than they were in Philadelphia.

The problem, according to news reports, is that investigators did not have enough evidence to prosecute Gosnell in Delaware.

But now authorities have a new abortion investigation on their hands.

Last week, two nurses testified in the Delaware Senate that they quit Planned Parenthood Delaware after witnessing “ridiculously unsafe” conditions.

The similarities to Gosnell’s center are chilling: profit-driven “meat-market style assembly line abortions,” botched abortions that sent women to the hospital, unlicensed staff, and unsanitary conditions.

Hopefully, these reports will serve as a wake-up call to Delaware, just as Gosnell did in Pennsylvania. Abortion centers cannot be left unchecked by the state. When they do, women get hurt and babies die. It’s time to hold abortion centers accountable.

Some Vaccines Are Developed Using Aborted Fetal Cells

We receive many requests for information in our office. One of the more frequent questions involves vaccines containing aborted fetal cells. So, I thought it would be good to share the information about these vaccines on our blog.Picture2

A simplified explanation: Some vaccines were developed using cells taken from aborted human babies. The vaccines themselves do not contain fetal cells, but many believe there is “residual” biological matter from the babies that has been assimilated into the vaccine, according to the Right to Life of Michigan.

Some of the common vaccines that use aborted fetal cells include chickenpox, hepatitis, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, rabies, and shingles. There are some alternative vaccines that do not use aborted fetal cells, including ones for tetanus, hepatitis B, polio, and rabies.

IRS Targets Adoptive Families, Pro-life Groups

Every time I read about the IRS scandal, I find something new to shake my head at in disgust.

My most recent head-shaking started after reading about adoptivePicture1 families being targeted by the IRS for audits.

According to a National Review article, the IRS audited 69 percent of families claiming adoption tax credits in 2012.

Having a sister and a cousin who are adopted, I know the amount of paperwork and preparation, expense and time, waiting and emotion that goes into the adoption process. To saddle an audit on these newly adoptive families who are trying to love and care for a new child is just infuriating to me.

Along with the Tea Party and other conservative groups, the IRS also targeted a number of pro-life groups. They demanded to know how pro-life prayer meetings were educational and required the pro-lifers to promise not to protest Planned Parenthood. Read more about them here.

Gallup Poll: Most Americans Aren’t Following Gosnell Case

I enjoy reading polls. Maybe that’s the nerd in me coming out, or maybe it’s just my journalism background. There’s just something about reading that basic data.

So, I was doubly intrigued to see Gallup’s latest poll on Americans’ abortion views and how they have been affected by the horrific Baby feetPhiladelphia abortion practice run by Kermit Gosnell.

The poll showed a few interesting things, some encouraging and some not so much:

First, the poll’s premise is that Gosnell’s murderous practices haven’t swayed Americans’ views on abortion, but that amounts to very little when you look at the data showing how few people are actually following the case.

Only about 25 percent of Americans say they are following the Gosnell story closely. To put that in perspective, Gallup says the level of attention to news stories averages around 61 percent.

Like Gallup, I wonder how much that statistic has to do with the lack of media coverage. Sometimes I have to remind myself that here in Pennsylvania we are getting more news about Gosnell than the rest of the country. Are we the only ones hearing about his murder trial?

Second, more Americans are calling themselves “pro-life.” The “pro-choice” identifier has been declining since 1995. Definitely an encouraging sign!

Third, and perhaps most telling, most Americans (58 percent) believe abortions should be illegal in most or all circumstances. Even women and young people oppose abortions in most cases.

Only 39 percent of those polled say abortions should be legal in all or most circumstances. I wonder if these people, when told the truth about abortion, would change their minds.

If nothing else, I think the poll shows how important it is that we reach out to people with the truth about abortion.
